Brett Favre moves into second place for pass attempts and passing yards records NFL

There is no doubt that Brett Favre is going into the hall of fame. So it wasn't without surprise that on November 10, 2005 Brett Favre moved into second place in the passing records book.

Brett's had a marvelous career playing quarterback and holds many individual records, but to make it to the second best to ever play the game is amazing. Here's a list of current record holders:

Statistics as of December 6, 2005

  1. Dan Marino - 61361 yards - 8358 attempts
  2. Brett Favre - 52725 yards - 7464
  3. John Elway - 51475 yards - 7250 attempts

In the game that he set the record, Brett Favre had the ball taken out of his hand by Bengals fan Greg Gall (video). He also threw five interceptions. Of which, Brett Favre explained, "I can't say that I was shocked that we had a chance to win that game, but with all the things that happened, we had a chance."

Brett Favre's season has been a disaster from a personal and team performance perspective. But he can look back on 2005 and know that he became the second best quarterback to ever play in the NFL.

Whoever thought that the quarterback from Mississippi who was told he'd never start in the NFL would end up here.
