Curtis Marting passes 14,000 yards rushing - top rushers in the NFL

Curtis Martin entered rarified air when he broke the 14,000 yard rushed for a career. Martin's been in the NFL for 11 season and have averaged over 1,000 yards per season.

He broke the 14,000 yard mark against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday, November 27, 2005. It came during the New York Jets third offensive series with a run up the middle then a bounce to the outside. The New York Jets went on to lose the game to the New Orleans Saints 21-19.

Curtis Martin joins the following players in the 14,000 yard club:

Curtis Martin also set a mark for carries above 3500. The only other players with more than 3500 carriers are Emmitt Smith and Walter Payton.

He is among the players to start an NFL career with 10 consecutive 1,000 yard rushing seasons. If he can gain over 1,000 yards this season and make it 11 season he will hold that record as well. In an effort to get this goal, Curtis needs 294 yards in the final games to break this record.

In an article by Bob Herzog in Newsday, Herm Edwards the Jets head coach says they will get it for him:

It's something that historically would be a good mark, not only for this football team but for Curtis Martin. He's a guy that's well-deserving of that. He's been a poster child of a true professional, a team-orientated guy who doesn't get the credit he deserves. He doesn't have a nickname; he doesn't slam the ball; he doesn't do a dance. He just makes yards. He's made them for a lot of years.
