Playing the final regular-season game of his collegiate career, fullback Jim Brown gave Syracuse fans an unforgettable performance on November 17, 1956, against Colgate. Brown scored six touchdowns and made seven conversion kicks, setting a major-college scoring mark of 43 points in one game. Brown, who ran 1, 15 and 50 yards for first-quarter touchdowns and rumbled eight yards for a second-period TD, tallied all 27 of the Orangemen's first-half points as Syracuse seized a 20-point lead.

Brown went 19 yards for a third-period touchdown and rammed in from the 1 for a fourth-quarter score as the Orange coasted to a 61-7 triumph over the Red Raiders. Overall, Brown gained 197 yards on 22 carries in a game played at Syracuse's Archbold Stadium. Dan Ciervo scored on a two-yard burst in the fourth quarter gave Syracuse its ninth and last touchdown of the day.

Ferd Kuczala, a reserve quarterback, ran one yard for a Syracuse touchdown in the third quarter. The TD was the Orangemen's third of the period.
