Most consecutive games played in the NFL? Jeff Feagles punter

Submitted by Scholar Muchu on Tue, 2005-12-13 02:11.

The iron man of the NFL used to Jim Marshall who played in the Canadian football league before moving to the the Cleveland Browns and Minnesota Vikings between 1960 and 1969. Jim Marshall was the former iron man of football, so it was with great anticipation that Jeff Feagles broke Jim Marshall's record. Where Jim Marshall was a defensive player best known for his wrong way run, Jeff Feagles is known as one of the best punters to ever play in the NFL.

Jeff Feagles broke the record on November 27, 2005 when the New York Giants played the Seattle Seahawks in Seattle. The game ended up going to overtime, and the Giants lost.

The record that Jeff Feagles set is amazing in that he never missed a game due to injury, though he broke his arm one time. As of December 13, 2005, Jeff Feagles has played in 285 consecutive games.

Some fun facts about the time that has elapsed since Jeff Feagles started playing professional football:

  • Jeff played for five teams during his career. New England Patriots, Philadelphia Eagles, Arizona Cardinals, Seattle Seahawks, New York

    Giants.

  • The streak started on September 4, 1988 in a game that pitted the New England Patriots against the New York Jets. The Patriots won

    that game 28-3.

  • There have been four expansion teams added to the NFL since the streak started: Carolina Panthers, Jacksonville

    Jaguars, Cleveland

    Browns and Houston Texans.

  • There have been four teams that moved and changed cities since the streak started: Baltimore Ravens, St. Louis Rams, Tennessee Titans and the Oakland Raiders.
