Al Lopez former oldest living baseball hall of famerThe baseball hall of fame is the oldest of all hall of famers, so it's interesting to note that the hall of fame has to have an oldest living member. The previous oldest living member of the baseball hall of fame was Al Lopez who played for the Cleveland Indians and Chicago White Sox.

Al Lopez was one of the earliest catchers in the game to have a direct impact on the teams he played for. His durability was legendary as he set the mark of 1,918 straight games catching until Bob Boone and Carlton Fisk broke the record decades later.

Lopez started playing professional baseball in 1930 and ended up playing 18 years. Al Lopez's statistics speak for themselves in terms of longevity and strength.

Al passed away from a heat attack on October 20, 2005 in Tampa, Florida. With Al's passing that means that at 88 years of age becomes the oldest baseball hall of famer.

Phil started his career in 1941 with the Yankees and retired from baseball in 1956. He was elected to the baseball hall of fame by Veterans Committee in 1994.
