attacking zone: Ice Hockey: The zone in which the opponent's goal is located and which extends from the goal line to the nearest blue line. One team's attacking zone is the other team's defensive zone. See defensive zone, neutral zone.

at bat: Baseball, Softball: An official turn as a batter. There are occasions when a batter is not charged with a time at bat: when he receives a base on balls, when he is hit by a pitched ball, when he is interfered with by the catcher, and when he sacrifices.

To bail out in Baseball, Softball: To draw back from the plate in order to avoid being hit by a pitched ball.

badminton: A game in which a shuttlecock is hit back and forth over a high, narrow net by means of a light long-handled racket.
