Theo Epstein left the Boston Red Sox on October 31, 2005. It was a shocking move by Theo Epstein, as many had expected him to stay with his life long favorite team. Theo Epstein set many records with the Boston Red Sox:

  • Youngest general manager hired: 28 years of age.
  • Youngest general manager to win a world series: 29 years of age.
  • First team to win a 7 game series after being down 3-0.
  • First Boston Red Sox team to win a world series since 1918.
  • Poached Kevin Millar from a Japanese team even though an informal agreement to do this existed with the Japanese league.
  • Recruited Curt Schilling through college recruiting efforts by having Thanksgiving with his family.
  • New record team slugging percentage of .491 set during the 2003 season.

It's obviously going to be an incredibly unpopular decision with the players. But we'll show up in spring training and get ready for the season and try to win another World Series. It's not like we're going to have a sit-down.
