Texas-El Paso quarterback Brooks Dawson turned in a one-for-the-book performance on October 27, 1967, passing for touchdowns against New Mexico on his first six completions of the game. Dawson, who entered the game on the Miners' third offensive play, threw incompletions on his first three attempts.

Besides the six TD passes, Dawson completed only three other passes in the game and finished with nine completions in 20 attempts for 376 yards. Averaging 41.8 yards per completion and running nine yards for a fourth-quarter touchdown, Dawson powered UTEP to a 75-12 triumph over the Lobos in Albuquerque. Bob Wallace. UTEP player who teamed with Dawson on a 25-yard scoring pass early in the first quarter. Larry McHenry. His first-quarter touchdown catch was Dawson's second TD pass of the game and the quarterback's shortest scoring strike-10 yards.

Volley Murphy. Murphy caught TD passes of 74, 86 and 52 yards in the first, second and third quarters, respectively. They accounted for Dawson's third, fifth and sixth scoring passes. Murphy had four receptions overall (one with Billy Stevens at quarterback) for 234 yards. Paul White. Dawson's fourth straight completion, resulting in his fourth touchdown, went to White. The 83-yard scoring play came in the second quarter.
