A baseball strikeout is a fascinating process. You must get a batter to miss or foul off at least three pitches, but most of the times it's more. If you think about the many Minnesota Twins pitchers there have been in their history, it's amazing to think that Johan Santana now holds the record.

The record for a Minnesota Twins pitcher is now 17 strikeouts in a game by Johan Santana. This was the most strikeouts in a Major League Baseball game since 2004.

Santana explained his performance with typical baseball cliches:

I didn't try to do anything different, I was just trying to stay aggressive, get ahead in the count and throw my fastball for strikes.

His performance happened on August 19, 2007 against the Texas Rangers. When you look at the box score check out the opposing pitcher, Kevin Millwood. A four hitter and he loses. Baseball is a cruel sport sometimes.

Santana won the AL player of the week for his effort.
