Lou Brock of the St. Louis Cardinals broke Maury Wills' modern stolen-base record in 1974, getting his record-breaking 105th steal on September 10 against the Philadelphia Phillies at Busch Memorial Stadium. Brock finished with 118 steals.

Bob Boone was the catcher when Brock broke Wills' record of 104 (set in 1962). Ron Hunt was the Cardinals' batter when Brock made his seventh-inning steal. Dick Ruthven. Phils' pitcher when Brock stole second base.
