Who scored the most goals in NCAA soccer in 2005 - Willy Guadarrama

Would you believe that the nation's leading men's NCAA soccer scorer came from Campbell University? Located in the heart of college soccer country, North Carolina, Campbell University has a great tradition of good soccer.

Willy Guadarrama is a sophomore forward on the team and ended the 2005 season with 20 goals, which was good enough to snag player of the year honors in the Atlantic Sun conference. He also added 4 assists for a total of 44 points.

He broke an 11 year record at Campbell University by scoring 5 goals in a game against Stetson on October 6, 2005. That was spurred by his parents making a special trip into town from Texas to see him. The 5 goal tally was the most of any NCAA player this year in a single game. But he didn't stop there, Willy also set a Campbell University record for quickest goal, 26 seconds, and fastest hat trick in 32 minutes.

Willy credits some of his success to playing with his younger brother, Sonny Guadarrama:

I'm finishing better, but a lot of it has to do with the mental aspect, and the motivation I get playing alongside my brother. We've been doing it all our lives. Just having him there helps a lot.

The NCAA post season starts this week for the team, so here's hoping Willy keeps up the great work!
